At StreetSmart Australia, we work with our generous donors, partners, sponsors, philanthropists, cafes, and volunteers to fund and support grassroots responses to homelessness. In doing so, we are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, hold, and disclose your personal information, and the rights you have in relation to that information.
We may update this policy from time to time. The most recent version will always be available on our website.
1. What Personal Information We Collect and Hold
We may collect and hold the following types of personal information:
Contact details – including your name, address, phone number, and email address
- Donation and transaction details – including donation dates, amounts, and associated preferences
- Campaign interactions – including petitions signed, emails subscribed to, and events or activities participated in
- Volunteer and employment applications – including professional history, references, police checks, and working with children clearances
- Website data – including browsing activity, IP address, and cookies, collected when you visit streetsmartaustralia.org
We do not collect or store credit card details. These are processed securely by our third-party payment providers.
2. How We Collect Your Personal Information
We usually collect personal information directly from you, for example when you:
- Donate or provide financial support
- Volunteer or apply for a role with us
- Interact with one of our campaigns
- Sign up to receive our email updates
- Visit our website or social media channels
We may also collect your information from third parties such as fundraising platforms, public directories, or referees, where relevant and lawful.

We only collect, hold, use, and disclose personal information where it is reasonably necessary for our work and in accordance with APP 6.
Primary Purpose:
We use your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, including:
- To process donations and issue receipts
- To manage your involvement in campaigns or volunteering
- To provide information about our work and updates on the impact of your support
- To manage internal operations, administration, planning, analysis, and record-keeping
- To consider and respond to employment or volunteer applications
Secondary Purpose:
We may also use or disclose your information for a secondary purpose where:
- It is directly related to the primary purpose of collection and you would reasonably expect such use; or
- You have consented to the use; or
- We are otherwise authorised or required by law to do so
We will never use sensitive information for a secondary purpose without your explicit consent.
4. Direct Marketing
We may use your personal information to send you direct marketing communications related to our work, including:
- Campaign updates and impact stories
- Requests for donations or other support
- Promotions related to StreetSmart’s goods, services, and partnerships
We will only contact you with direct marketing if:
