After 22 years, hundreds of restaurants and millions of $2 donations, StreetSmart Australia has announced that 2025 will mark the final DineSmart campaign in its current form – DineSmart: The Final Service.

Since launching in 2003 with a handful of restaurants and one big idea, DineSmart has achieved:

StreetSmart CEO Alan White said the decision to pause the campaign after 2025 was made after a detailed review of financials, partner retention, and sector change — and to ensure resources are directed where they make the greatest impact.

The hospitality landscape has changed dramatically, and our partners know that better than anyone – with some major partners stepping back from the campaign over the last few years.

After 22 incredible years, this year’s DineSmart campaign will be both a celebration and a full stop, a way to honour the restaurants, chefs, and diners who have changed lives through their generosity. This isn’t the end of DineSmart - it’s a pause. We want to take the time to work with our partners to reimagine what comes next for a new era of hospitality and charity, together in line with the development of our new strategic plan, and StreetSmart’s next era.

A legacy that carries on

DineSmart holds a special place in StreetSmart’s story. It was the founding campaign that launched the organisation’s mission to tackle homelessness at the grassroots level, empowering small, local organisations to make a big impact.

Its founder, Adam Robinson, launched the first DineSmart campaign 23 years ago with one big idea – that a $2 donation on a bill could change lives. And it did. That idea grew into a national movement, one that continues to drive our work today communities we continue to support.

StreetSmart Founder Adam Robinson reflected on the campaign’s legacy:

DineSmart began with a simple idea that everyone can make a difference, even with spare change. Seeing it grow across the hospitality sector for more than 20 years, has been a privilege. The impact is enormous - thousands of grants, millions raised, and countless people supported. That legacy lives on through StreetSmart’s work every day, and we’ll carry the spirit of DineSmart forward into whatever comes next.

StreetSmart is calling on restaurants, cafes, and hospitality groups across Australia to join one final time in DineSmart: The Final Service, a last opportunity to raise funds for vital grassroots projects and to celebrate the campaign that started it all.

We want this final year to be a thank you to the industry that stood beside us for two decades. It’s time for one final Service - one last chance to show how powerful this community can be when we come together.
