StreetSmart enters its next chapter with the appointment of Kerrie Buhagiar as Head of Impact
The team at StreetSmart Australia is delighted to welcome Kerrie Buhagiar as our new Head of Impact, marking an exciting new chapter for the organisation as it continues to strengthen its impact in communities across Australia.
Kerrie joins StreetSmart with extensive experience across the community sector, bringing a deep understanding of grassroots organisations, partnerships and community impact. Her appointment is the first milestone in a carefully planned leadership transition developed by StreetSmart’s Board of Directors, CEO Alan White, and Founder Adam Robinson, ensuring the organisation is well-positioned for the future while remaining true to the values that have guided it for more than two decades.
For over 20 years, Adam has helped shape StreetSmart into one of Australia’s most respected community fundraising organisations, connecting the generosity of businesses, philanthropists and individuals with frontline organisations creating lasting change for people experiencing homelessness and hardship.
Over the coming months, Adam will work closely alongside Kerrie and the StreetSmart team, supporting a thoughtful transition of knowledge, relationships and expertise before stepping away from the organisation later this year.
There will be time in the months ahead for everyone across the StreetSmart community to reflect on and celebrate the remarkable legacy Adam has created. But this we already know: to date, StreetSmart has supported more than 1,200 organisations across Australia, delivering more than $15 million in grants and material aid, and along the way sharing countless stories of hope, resilience, ingenuity and commitment from small, grassroots and community-led organisations on the frontline of homelessness.
And it all started with Adam – his creativity, his ingenuity and an idea 23 years ago to add a simple $2 donation to the bottom of a restaurant bill. What has grown from that idea is truly remarkable.
A message from the CEO
StreetSmart CEO Alan White said this moment represents an exciting future for the organisation’s impact focus, and a reflection of its enduring legacy
“StreetSmart has always been about backing local communities to create practical solutions to homelessness, and that mission remains as important today as it was when Adam founded the organisation more than 20 years ago.
“We’ve been working towards this transition for some time, and I’m really pleased to welcome Kerrie to the team. She brings outstanding experience, a collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to community-led impact.
“We’re deeply grateful to Adam for his vision, leadership and unwavering belief in the power of collective generosity. His legacy lives on not only through StreetSmart itself, but through the hundreds of grassroots organisations and communities that have benefited from his work.”
A Message from the Founder
Founder Adam Robinson said he was excited to support StreetSmart’s next chapter.
“This is such an exciting next step for StreetSmart as we welcome Kerrie to the role of Head of Impact. For this period of transition, I’m looking forward to contributing my sector knowledge to the work of StreetSmart to support Kerrie, who, along with our CEO Alan White, will help shape the future of the organisation and how we impact the lives of people experiencing homelessness and hardship. StreetSmart couldn’t be in better hands.”
A Message from the Head of Impact
Kerrie said she was honoured to join StreetSmart and build on the organisation’s remarkable legacy.
“StreetSmart has an incredible history of supporting grassroots organisations to create lasting change, thanks to Adam’s vision and leadership over more than two decades. I’m honoured to build on that legacy as we enter StreetSmart’s next chapter, working alongside our partners to strengthen our impact and support even more communities across Australia.”
A New Era for StreetSmart
As StreetSmart looks to the future, its purpose remains unchanged: mobilising generosity to fund practical, grassroots responses to homelessness and hardship.
With Kerrie joining the leadership team as Head of Impact, and Adam supporting a carefully planned transition, the organisation is well placed to continue growing its impact and supporting communities across Australia for many years to come.
