StreetSmart Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Sally Hines as Chair of the Board of Directors, marking an important milestone in the organisation's carefully planned leadership transition.
Sally succeeds Jerry Marston, who returned to the role of Chair to provide experienced stewardship during a significant period of renewal for StreetSmart. Working alongside the Board, Jerry helped guide the organisation through an important phase of strategic development, including the appointment of CEO Alan White, the renewal of the Board and the development of StreetSmart’s next strategic direction.
With these key milestones now achieved, the Board has undertaken a planned transition to new leadership, with Sally appointed to lead StreetSmart into its next chapter.
Having joined the Board in November 2025, Sally brings extensive governance, leadership and community sector experience to the role. Her connection to StreetSmart is deeply personal, having first engaged with the organisation through one of its grassroots grant programs.

A Message from the Incoming Chair
Incoming Chair Sally Hines said she was honoured to take on the role.
“My connection with StreetSmart began as a recipient of its grants, so I understand the profound difference the organisation makes in communities. I am enormously grateful to Jerry for rejoining StreetSmart at a time of need and for the leadership, dedication and wisdom he has contributed over more than 20 years.
“Since joining the Board in November 2025, it has been a privilege to contribute to StreetSmart’s purpose to mobilise community generosity and enable grassroots organisations to prevent and respond to homelessness.
“I am delighted and honoured to take on the role of Chair as we begin implementing our new strategy, and I look forward to working even more closely with Alan and my fellow Directors to strengthen StreetSmart’s impact.”
A Message from the Outgoing Chair
Outgoing Chair Jerry Marston reflected on the transition.
“It’s not often that you have the opportunity to take on such a challenging assignment, and the good fortune to accomplish it successfully in a fixed and constrained timeframe. It’s been an enormously rewarding collaboration involving past and new Board members, the extraordinary founder Adam, and the exceptional new CEO Alan, and I want to thank them all for their commitment and continuing contribution.
We know from our funders, supporters and community partners that StreetSmart continues to play a unique and crucial role in supporting those tackling homelessness at the grassroots, and I know that under Sally’s experienced stewardship and Alan’s executive leadership, the next chapter is set to be an exciting read.”
A New Era for StreetSmart
As Chair, Jerry has played a pivotal role in guiding StreetSmart through an important period of renewal, helping position the organisation for long-term success while remaining firmly focused on its purpose. His leadership has supported a strengthened Board, the appointment of a new CEO, the development of a clear strategic direction and a carefully planned succession process.
As StreetSmart enters its next chapter with the impending launch of its 2026 – 2030 strategy, the organisation remains focused on mobilising generosity, strengthening grassroots organisations and delivering practical responses to homelessness in communities across Australia.
